Etymology of Tristicha:
Gk. tri- = three; stichos = row. The leaves are distinctly arranged in three rows – one row being dorsal and of short leaves, and the other two lateral rows having longer leaves.
Etymology of alternifolia:
From the Latin ‘terni’ / ‘terni’ meaning ‘having three each’; and the Latin ‘folia’ / ‘folium’ meaning ‘leaf’.
