For August Wulfhorst (1861–1936), German-Rhenish missionary and plant collector who was ordained in 1890 and sent to South-West Africa (now Namibia) to establish a Rhenish mission station. In 1891, he established a mission station in Ondjiva (today Angola), together with Rhenish Missionary Meisenholl, and a second mission station at Omupanda in 1892, where he stayed until 1917 when hostilities obliged them to close it. He returned to Germany. Wulfhorst returned to Namibia again and was stationed at Karibib until 1927. He collected a great quantity of ethnological material, probably at the instigation of Martti Rautanen (1845–1926), and he also sent plant specimens to Hans Schinz (1858–1941) at Zurich.
