Gk. zygon = a yoke; phyllum = leaf. The leaves are usually bifoliolate – the two leaflets are as if ‘yoked together’.

Sprawling soft shrublet to 20 cm. Leaves bifoliolate, leaflets linear with margins flat or revolute. Flowers yellow. Fruits round and 5-sutured when fresh but 5-angled and lightly ribbed when dry. June--Aug. Sandy flats and rocky ridges, SW (Cape Peninsula).
