Short etymology:
Gk. ex- = without; omos = shoulder; referring to a Greek tunic or vest worn by soldiers and workers without sleeves, leaving the shoulders bare. The flowers of some Exomis species grow in leaf axils near stem tips, half-hidden among the leaves. Possibly ‘off-the-shoulder’. Meaning obscure.
