Etymology of Barberetta:
Named in honour of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Barber (nee Bowker, 1818-1899), who, with her brother, was the first to collect this plant in Natal. She observed and wrote on plants and insects.

From the LatinĀ aureus = 'golden', typically referring to the flower colour.
