From the Latin permeabilis = ';able to pass through' in reference to the gaps between the side tepals and the upper tepal

Cormous geophyte, 30--50 cm, tunics fibrous. Leaves linear, whip-like. Flowers bilabiate, windowed in profile, cream to brownish or mauve usually with yellowish markings. Aug.--Oct. Shale slopes in renosterveld, SW, LB, KM, SE (Caledon eastwards throughout southern Africa).
