Etymology of Monopsis:
Gk. mono- = one, single; -opsis = resembling; referring to the appearance of the corolla for most species. Every flower looks the same.

From Latin uni = 'one' and dentata = 'tooth'

Erect or decumbent perennial, stems to 60 cm. Leaves linear to elliptic, entire to coarsely toothed. Flowers bilabiate, purple or brown with a darker centre. Oct.--Jan. Damp sandy flats and rocky slopes at low elevation, SW, LB, SE (Riviersonderend to KwaZulu-Natal).
