Short etymology:
For Carl Fredrik Nyman (1820–1893), Swedish botanist and curator of the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm for some 40 years. In 1838 he studied at Uppsala University with Karl Greg Theodor Kotschy (1794–1865), an Austrian botanist, and Heinrich Wilhelm Schott (1794–1865). They produced Analecta Botanica (1854), of which he was an editor. His major works include Conspectus Florae Europaeae in four volumes (1878–1885) and Sylloge Florae Europaeae (1854–1855).
